James Cornetet, RA


James Cornetet is an architect and designer for HKS Architects. Projects designed by Cornetet range in scale, budget and type. Current projects include the AIA Award winning Channelside parking garage in Tampa, Florida; Palm Beach Community College master plan in Lake Worth, Florida, and an interactive installation for a gallery in Orlando, Florida. Other significant projects include the View, a 400 foot tall proposed condo tower sited on Lake Eola in Orlando, Florida, and Eola Capital, a 200 foot tall proposed office building in Orlando, Florida. Cornetet has won several competitions and design awards, his designs have been recognized both locally and nationally for exemplifying excellence in design.

Cornetet received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 2004 and a Master of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati in 2006. Cornetet is a LEED Accredited Professional, an NCARB certified architect, he holds a license to practice architecture in Florida, and is an architectural critic for the German architecture magazine Bauwelt.

AIA Tampa Award of Merit (2009)
Awarded the AIA Tampa Award of Excellence in Design, in the un-built category for the Channelside Drive Parking Garage in Tampa, Florida.

AIA Orlando Award of Honor (2009)
Awarded the AIA Orlando Award of Excellence in Design, in the un-built category for the Channelside Drive Parking Garage in Tampa, Florida.

HKS Design Fellowship (2008)
This honor is awarded to a young designer within the firm each year for excellence in design.  Fellows are flown to Dallas to take part in a design charrette.  The charrette in 2008 focused on designing a mixed use development in the trendy Deep Ellum arts district.

Juror at Valencia Community College in Orlando Florida (2008)
Invited juror to the first year architecture students of Professor Andrew Ray.

AIAFLA Emerging Professional Design Competition (2008)
Awarded 1st place in the final round of a design competition hosted by the AIA Florida chapter and juried by Ply Architecture.  The competition required entrants to produce a design for a light rail station.

AIA Orlando Award of Excellence (2008)
Awarded the AIA Orlando Award of Excellence in the un-built category for the design of a pavilion completed for the Cincinnati Park Board.

AIAFLA Emerging Professional Design Competition (2007)
One of three finalists selected to move onto the final round of a design competition hosted by the AIA Florida chapter and juried by Ply Architecture.  The competition required entrants to produce a design for a light rail station.

USGBC “Emerging Green Talent” Competition (2007)
Awarded 2nd place in the USGBC “Emerging Green Talent” design competition.  The design was judged based on the design and implementation of sustainable design strategies.

Award for Distinguished Design (2006)
This honor is awarded by the thesis faculty committee of the University of Cincinnati for best architectural design in the 2006 DAAP Works Senior Show.

Juror at Miami University of Ohio (2006)
Invited juror to the final studio review for the students of Professor Raffi Tomassian.

Award for Design Excellence (2006)
This honor is awarded by the AIA Cincinnati for excellence in architectural design in the 2006 DAAP Works Senior Show.

Student Society of the School of Architecture and Interior Design
Member from 2005-2006, Secretary 2006.  Organization is responsible for organizing after school activities and raising funds for yearly traditions such as “Bridge Break”, and to fund and sponsor lectures by Bernard Tschumi and Mark Wigley.

Graduate Assistantship (2004-2006)
Includes a full scholarship and a $2500 a quarter teaching stipend.

FormZ Award of Distinction (2004)
Winner of the FormZ Award of Distinction in the category of fabrication.  This award was presented at the ACADIA Conference by Auto-des-sys Inc., for research completed using FormZ in the design and fabrication of building components.
