Ethics
One of the most overlooked aspects of architecture is the area of ethics. Most architects that we know, find that they are always floating in the grey. Should I create my own design or copy a design from another architect? Should I accept the rendering job from another local firm to complete on the side? Should I print my portfolio on the work printer? These are just a few of the questions that we may be faced with throughout our careers. All of these questions have obvious answers, but there is evidence that the right thing is rarely done. Architects although professionals are often rogue warriors, mavericks that want to rage against the machine. In this section we will try tackle tough ethical issues that we as architects may encounter in our careers and examine why architects are rebels to the law.
Disney World in Orlando, Florida is for many reasons worthy of architectural study. While walking through the parks one can study how the environment has been designed to handle large masses of people and apply these principles to plaza or park designs. One could also study how the signage has been designed to communicate to anyone regardless of the language they speak, and apply these principles to way-finding design in hospitals.
